70%/30% virgin wool/synthetic wool. Dry clean only. Very warm and comfortable blanket. Low heat release. Can be used for both indoor and outdoor use. Wool has low rate of flame spread, low heat release, and low heat of combustion. Wool is static resistant as the retention of moisture within the fabric prevents a build up of static electricity. Wool garments are much less likely to spark or cling to the body. Olive Drab 70% virgin wool blanket. Dimensions 62" x 82" (inches).

5Warm & scratchy if you are alergic to wool.Dec 13, 2011
By John G. Davie "J.D."
This blanket is almost as good as the W.W. II G.I. issued blankets the Army gave out.

It is a full size blanket for a twin size bed but it is not 100% wool.

Wash this blanket on delicate and clothes line dry.

3Odor unacceptableMay 20, 2011

The fire retardent odor is unbelievably strong and will even drive you out of the garage when hung there overnight. Plan on having it cleaned or wash in Woolite.

4Good for the priceDec 21, 2010

Military blankets do have a fire retardant that gives them a unique smell. Dry clean if you aren't use to this-the stitching is good, and the weave is solid, not very thick tho.

Quality wool blanket.

Just a FYI for purchasers, as in the description it has a fire-retardant. Believe it or not there is an odor associated with making something fire-retardant. If you find this unacceptable find another blanket.

If on the other hand you think the ability to maintain body heat, stay dry and stop erratic fires is a good quality then buy this.

5Is it possible to love a blanket? I think so...May 12, 2012

I do a lot of camping. Cargo capacity goes between nearly unlimited (canoe camping in an old 19 foot camp canoe) to minimal (hiking out with just a blanket roll and a rucksack of basic stuff). I was looking for a good sturdy army blanket to use as a bedroll when not taking even a sleeping bag. I'd lost my old original 100% wool army blanket a while back during a move. I liked how this new blanket was cut to the dimensions of someone born in the last twenty years. The old ones were only five foot six tall and let your feet hang out. The new version covers me (6'1") fine with room to spare. The 70/30 blend still favors wool content, but throws in that polyester bit to eliminate the itch, and give you a big warm comfy blanket no matter how wet it might get.
As far as some reviews noting a chemical smell: Sorry, I just didn't smell it to that degree. It did smell like it had been processed and stuffed in a bag and shipped from India, though. (Does this make it an "Indian Blanket"? Gaah... that could get very politically incorrect in short order..) Upon further inspection I noted that it had been processed and stuffed in a bag and shipped from India. I ran it through my washer with a few cap fulls of Woolite on the "large load" setting so it'd have plenty of water to swim in. It was almost dry after spin-dry, so I just chucked it over the fence to dry. It now smells pretty nice and is very soft.
I made a lanyard out of eight feet of 550 cord that lets me sling it like a book bag. You tie a loop in each end of the 550 cord so you can make a slip/snare knot. So now you have a cord with a noose at either end.
Fold and roll the blanket until you have a cylinder about a foot long and eight inches in diameter.
Slip to loops at the ends of the 550 cord around the ends of the blanket roll, snug them up, and sling that thing around your shoulder, and you're ready to do a bare bones camp.
Note: If you do the "blanket roll" camping thing, you should remember that you need to roll up your various camping essentials in the blanket as you go. Your shoulder slung two-quart canteen will be hanging off your other shoulder.
But I digress...
This thing keeps you warm in the cold, but doesn't make you sweat when its warm out. It had a faint funky smell when the air tight plastic bag it came in was opened, but that went away on the first rinse. (That this thing will now put out fires and asks only tolerance of a faint aroma that washes away right away is, from my perspective, kind of worth it.) There's all kinds of stuff on YouTube about how these can be used for shelters that shed water like a duck's back. And if you look at old army manuals you can see how you can use a couple of sapling trunks and one of these blankets with a clever three way fold to make a stretcher in case you need to carry someone out of the woods.
There are all kinds of "wool" blankets on the net right now. I couldn't find any 100% wool ones anymore. Those used to be about five bucks at the surplus store, and they were itchy as Hell. This new one really brings the Wool Blanket concept into the present. It isn't all that heavy, keeps you really warm, makes a makeshift tent or sleeping bag, and makes you look really stoic when you wrap it around your shoulders and sit gazing into the fire. (Seriously...this thing is like a portable tent when you wear it...)
As far as "Bang for the $", this is a very solid investment. It will last for years, never lose its heat retention or ventilation properties, and just get softer as the pointy parts of the wool wear off.

Buy one or not, that's your call. I know I love mine.
